Chelsea could reportedly make a major move for Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni when the January transfer window opens.

The Italian centre-back has emerged as a potential defensive target for Chelsea, with reports suggesting that head coach Xabi Alonso is keen on adding Bastoni to his squad during the winter window.

Inter Milan are understood to value the 27-year-old highly, with figures of around **€80 million** being mentioned as the price that could be required to convince the Serie A club to consider a sale.

Bastoni's ability to operate comfortably in possession, defend in a back three or back four and contribute to building attacks from the back makes him an attractive option for Alonso's tactical approach.

Chelsea's reported interest comes amid continued scrutiny of their defensive performances. Although the Blues have shown considerable attacking quality, defensive consistency remains an area that could require improvement.

Barcelona have also previously been linked with Bastoni, but Inter's substantial valuation could make a deal difficult for the Catalan club. Reports indicate that Barcelona may instead explore more affordable defensive targets.

For Chelsea, however, the financial demands could also make any January deal complicated. Bastoni remains an important player for Inter, meaning the Italian club would have little reason to sell unless its valuation is met.

At this stage, **there is no official confirmation that Chelsea have made an €80 million bid or that a transfer has been agreed**. The story should therefore be viewed as a developing transfer report rather than a completed deal.

If Chelsea do decide to pursue Bastoni in January, the defender could become one of the most intriguing names on the club's winter shortlist.
