Chelsea returned to training at Cobham on Thursday as preparations began for their upcoming Premier League encounter against Manchester United following a painful Carabao Cup exit at Anfield.
Xabi Alonso and his players arrived back from Liverpool in the early hours of Thursday morning after a demanding night that saw the Blues eliminated from the competition following a penalty shootout defeat.
With the physical demands of the match in mind, players who featured for most of the contest focused primarily on recovery work in the gym. The priority was to help the squad regain fitness ahead of another important fixture this weekend.
Several players also took to the training pitches, including Cole Palmer, who was unavailable for the Liverpool tie due to suspension but is eligible to feature against Manchester United.
Valentin Barco and Marco Palestra were also among those involved on the grass after making substitute appearances at Anfield.
Chelsea will hold their final training session on Friday before turning their attention fully to Saturday's Premier League showdown with Manchester United.
The Blues will be eager to put their midweek disappointment behind them and respond positively in front of their supporters. Despite the frustration of missing out on a place in the next round of the Carabao Cup, Alonso's side now have an opportunity to regain momentum in the league.
With Palmer available again and preparations continuing at Cobham, Chelsea will hope to deliver a strong performance and return to winning ways against their Premier League rivals.
