Chelsea are reportedly growing increasingly confident about their chances of signing Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott during the January transfer window as Xabi Alonso looks to strengthen his midfield options.

Scott has emerged as the Blues' leading midfield target following reports that Enzo Fernandez is set to join Manchester City on deadline day during the summer transfer window. Chelsea are understood to have maintained their interest in the Bournemouth star after making several offers for his services in the summer.

However, completing a deal could prove difficult, with Bournemouth reportedly demanding a fee exceeding £100 million for the highly rated midfielder. Chelsea have already reopened discussions as they explore the possibility of securing an agreement when the transfer window reopens in January.

Liverpool are also believed to be monitoring Scott's situation, although the Merseyside club are reportedly under less pressure to recruit a midfielder midway through the season. This could give Chelsea an advantage as they look to move ahead of their rivals in the race for his signature.

Scott is not the only midfielder on Chelsea's shortlist. Monaco's Lamine Camara remains an alternative after the Blues failed to complete a deal for him on deadline day in the summer. Roma midfielder Manu Koné is another player being considered as the club assess their options.

With midfield reinforcements remaining a priority, Chelsea's next steps could determine whether they can finally land Scott after their unsuccessful summer pursuit. Bournemouth's valuation, however, is likely to be a major factor in any potential negotiations.
