Former Chelsea striker Pat Nevin has admitted he would not be surprised if Estevao eventually considers leaving Stamford Bridge in search of more regular first-team football.

The Brazilian teenager is regarded as one of the most exciting young talents in world football, with his technical ability, creativity and attacking instincts generating considerable excitement among Chelsea supporters. However, questions surrounding his opportunities for consistent game time have raised concerns about how his development will progress at the London club.

Nevin believes that while Estevao has the talent and potential to become an elite player, regular appearances are essential if he is to fulfil those expectations.

Speaking about the situation, the former Chelsea forward stressed that young footballers have a limited period to gain the experience required to establish themselves among the best in the game.

“I wouldn't be surprised,” Nevin said when discussing the possibility of Estevao seeking a move elsewhere.

He was careful not to suggest that the teenager should immediately push for an exit, but emphasised the importance of playing regularly during the early stages of a professional career.

According to Nevin, top young players need substantial competitive experience before reaching their early twenties. He suggested that accumulating hundreds of appearances by the age of 20 or 21 can be an important part of developing into an established first-team star.

Nevin also pointed out that many exceptional footballers combine early opportunities with outstanding natural ability and the experience gained from playing consistently at the highest level.

For Estevao, the concern is whether Chelsea can provide the regular football necessary to help him make that next step.

The Brazilian has already demonstrated considerable promise, but Nevin believes talent alone is not enough. Young players must also experience the different situations that arise during matches, learn how to respond to pressure and develop a deeper understanding of the game.

The former Chelsea striker expressed disappointment that Estevao's current circumstances have not allowed him to build the volume of playing experience he believes is necessary.

“It's a bit of a shame because it's not happening,” Nevin added, highlighting his concern about the teenager's development.

Chelsea face an important decision over Estevao's development

Chelsea's challenge is to balance their ambition to compete at the highest level with the responsibility of developing one of their most promising young players.

Competition for attacking positions can make regular starts difficult to secure, particularly at a club with several talented options. Nevertheless, managing Estevao's minutes will be an important part of ensuring that his progress continues.

Chelsea will not necessarily need to consider selling the Brazilian simply because his opportunities are limited at this stage. However, if the situation persists, questions could emerge about whether another environment would offer him a clearer pathway to regular first-team football.

For now, Nevin's comments serve as a warning rather than a prediction that Estevao will leave Stamford Bridge. The teenager's long-term future could depend on how effectively Chelsea turn his enormous potential into consistent involvement at senior level.

The Blues invested in Estevao with the expectation that he could become a major figure in their future. Providing him with meaningful opportunities to learn, improve and influence matches could prove just as important as securing his services in the first place.
