Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has admitted his side were disappointed with both the result and their performance in the 2-0 Premier League defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, but insists the team have already shifted their attention to their next challenge.
The Blues suffered a frustrating afternoon at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, with Mike Penders' own goal giving Tottenham the breakthrough before Mathys Tel scored a late second to seal the victory.
The defeat was a setback for Alonso's men following their encouraging wins over Bournemouth and Everton. Chelsea also had to deal with Cole Palmer's dismissal, which further complicated their efforts to get back into the contest.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea's Carabao Cup fourth-round clash with Liverpool, Alonso acknowledged the disappointment but stressed the importance of moving forward rather than dwelling on the result.
“We were not happy with the result or the performance. We have moved on and now the focus is on Liverpool,” Alonso said.
Chelsea will have an immediate opportunity to respond when they travel to Anfield on Wednesday, with a place in the next round of the Carabao Cup at stake.
Alonso will be hoping his players can deliver a stronger performance and restore confidence after the disappointing London derby defeat. With Liverpool awaiting, the Chelsea manager knows his side must quickly put the setback behind them and show a positive reaction on the pitch.
