Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has insisted that the club’s impressive Premier League record against Tottenham Hotspur will count for little when the two London rivals meet.
The Blues are preparing for another highly anticipated derby, with their historical advantage over Spurs offering encouragement but no guarantee of success. Alonso acknowledged that he was aware of Chelsea’s record in the fixture, yet stressed that his players must focus on the challenge in front of them rather than past achievements.
The Spanish coach made it clear that previous statistics and records should not distract his team from the work required to secure another positive result.
Alonso also emphasised the importance of commitment and determination, explaining that Chelsea must demonstrate the right mentality and bring several key qualities to the contest.
His message reflects a clear approach ahead of the derby: Chelsea cannot rely on history alone. They must earn their result through their performance, intensity and desire on the pitch.
With local pride at stake, Alonso will be hoping his players can deliver the kind of display needed to maintain Chelsea’s strong run against their London rivals.
For the Blues, the objective is simple — turn their historical advantage into another result by proving their quality on the pitch.
