Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has stressed the importance of keeping every member of his squad motivated, insisting that all players will have opportunities to contribute as the season progresses.
With competition for places increasing at Stamford Bridge, Alonso understands that some players will naturally feel frustrated when they are left out of the starting lineup. However, he believes maintaining the right attitude and staying prepared will be crucial for anyone hoping to make an impact when called upon.
The Spanish coach acknowledged that disappointment is a normal reaction for players who want to feature regularly, but emphasised that every member of the squad must continue to feel valued and ready to step up.
“There will be moments for everyone. I understand when they are disappointed after not playing. This is normal. They need to feel they are important and be ready. When you are given the chance, you have to show…” Alonso explained.
His message reflects the importance of squad unity as Chelsea navigate a demanding campaign. With fixtures presenting different tactical challenges, having players ready to deliver from the starting lineup or the bench could prove decisive.
Alonso's approach also highlights his desire to build a competitive dressing room in which every player understands their role and remains committed to the team's objectives.
For Chelsea, keeping the entire squad focused and motivated could be just as important as selecting the strongest starting eleven. Opportunities will come, and Alonso expects his players to be ready to take advantage of them.
What do you think, Chelsea fans? Is Alonso right to insist that every player must stay ready, even when they are not starting?
