Chelsea signing of Alejandro Garnacho hasn’t worked out and could end up selling him

According to a report from talkSPORT, which has come out after Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester United over the weekend, there is now an acceptance among the Blues’ hierarchy that the Garnacho signing has not worked out.

The same outlet has also claimed that Chelsea are now open to selling the winger as a result despite him having only arrived at the club last August.

Chelsea paid £40m to sign Garnacho from their Premier League rivals United, which some felt was a bargain at the time.

It has also been reported elsewhere that Chelsea are prepared to sell Garnacho this summer, so it does appear that the club may already be done with him.

o the delight of his former supporters, Garnacho really struggled against United as Chelsea fell to a fourth consecutive defeat in the English top flight.

Whatever happens this summer, Garnacho cannot complain about not getting a chance. With Jamie Gittens struggling to stay fit this season, the Argentina international has had the opportunity to nail down the spot on the left. He has not done it, though.

In the cup competitions, Garnacho has been able to make an impact. For example, in four Carabao Cup fixtures, he scored four goals, including a brace against Arsenal.

However, Garnacho has struggled in the Premier League, netting just once. With that in mind, it is not a shock to hear that Chelsea are already thinking about selling him.

That being said, Garnacho is still a young player with a lot of potential. There is no reason why he cannot improve at Chelsea and turn things around.

Liam Rosenior calls up Jesse Derry to first-team training

Chelsea held training on Monday ahead of the trip to Brighton tomorrow night, which sees Rosenior return to face a side he played more than 50 times for, and then worked as a U23 assistant manager.

According to BBC reporter Nizaar Kinsella, 18-year-old Jesse Derry was in senior training on Monday. Derry has made his first-team debut under Rosenior and could now be in with a shout of playing.

Derry is yet to play in the Premier League, or even be a part of the matchday squad. Kinsella posted on X, following Monday’s press conference: “Jesse Derry was training with Chelsea’s first team squad today.”

With Estevao sidelined and Pedro a doubt, Rosenior will have some decisions to make when it comes to picking his starting XI. He is forced into a change out wide, and it could see Alejandro Garnacho start.

Palmer has improved since playing in the 10, after a stint on the right flank under Rosenior. Pedro Neto was one of Chelsea’s best players against Man United, and Garnacho is now likely to start on Tuesday.

Liam Delap struggled on Saturday even if he did almost score only his second Premier League goal, and Rosenior will be keen to start Pedro even if not fully it. There may also be changes at centre-back.

Wesley Fofana was spotted walking off the pitch at full-time angrily, and Rosenior may decide a change is needed. Fernandez’s fitness is a positive, and he is likely to partner Moises Caicedo in central midfield.

Liam Rosenior admits Champions League qualification is now a ‘difficult’ task

Rosenior has now been discussing his side’s chances of finishing in the top five ahead of their game against Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday.

In the build-up to Chelsea’s visit to the Amex Stadium, Rosenior was asked about the Blues’ Champions League hopes.

The 41-year-old was very honest with his response, telling reporters that it is now a “difficult” task following Saturday’s loss to United.

In his pre-match press conference, which has been shared by football.london, Rosenior said: “We’ll deal with each situation as it arises. It’s a difficult task but we have to focus on winning against a very good Brighton team.”

Chelsea are currently in sixth place in the Premier League table, seven points behind Liverpool, who occupy the final Champions League spot in fifth.

United’s gap over Chelsea has now increased to 10 points after their victory at Stamford Bridge, giving Rosenior’s side zero chance of finishing above Michael Carrick’s team.

On another day, Liam Delap believes Chelsea would have beaten United after all of the chances that they created.

Brighton are one of the most in-form teams in the Premier League right now, whereas Chelsea are one of the most out-of-form sides.

In fact, since gameweek 26, Chelsea have been second bottom in the form table. Nothing points towards a Chelsea win here.

The most the Club World Cup winners can probably hope for is a draw, so COBALT ROAR  is predicting the game to finish 1-1.

However, no Chelsea supporter at this point would be surprised if the club could not even secure a point and went on to lose. At this stage, it does not really matter. It is going to take some collapse from United, Aston Villa or Liverpool for Chelsea to finish in the top five.

Rosenior calls on Blues to ‘stand up and fight for the shirt’

Liam Rosenior says his Chelsea players must 'stand up for the shirt and fight' when our chase for a top-five finish in the Premier League continues at Brighton and Hove Albion tomorrow evening.

With five Premier League fixtures remaining, a disappointing run of results for the Blues has left us pursuing those above us in the race for UEFA Champions League qualification.

Rosenior believes reeling in the clubs above us is not an insurmountable task, with our head coach outlining that it will require plenty of belief, commitment and fight from his team. A focus on what we can control, rather than the distraction of results elsewhere, is also paramount.

‘The first thing is we can't be looking to other teams or other results, we have to look to ourselves. That's what you have to do,’ he explained.

‘It's easy to say these words, but it’s about belief and keeping the faith. The way you do that is you work as hard as you can, with as much quality as you possibly can, and you turn things around.

‘It's about character now; it's about standing up. It's about people who are willing, in difficult moments, to stand up for the shirt and fight. That's what I'm looking for tomorrow.

‘But I believe in them, and I believe that we can come through this period so much stronger, but we have to get this part right now.’

The Blues currently sit sixth in the top-flight table, seven points behind fifth-placed Liverpool. Yet we still have to visit Anfield before the season comes to a close, and Rosenior insists his side must be ready to strike if an opportunity to move back into the Champions League qualification positions opens up.

‘To take it as far as we possibly can has to be the aim,' Rosenior added. 'The only way you do that is to focus on the next game. We need to go into the Brighton game with the mentality to go and win.’

Liam Rosenior urges focus during 'a massive week' for the Blues

Liam Rosenior wants his Chelsea side to begin a 'massive week' by arresting our disappointing form with a victory over Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium tomorrow evening.

The games are coming thick and fast as the Blues enter a crucial period of the campaign, competing across two fronts. First comes a midweek trip to face the Seagulls in the Premier League tomorrow evening, before we head to Wembley for an FA Cup semi-final against old rivals Leeds United on Sunday.

For our head coach, the target is clear. Take a step closer to a top-five league finish and qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League, before booking our place in a cup final for the chance to lift silverware.

Our next two games are vital for those ambitions, and Rosenior says these are the high-stakes moments that make the sport so exciting.

‘It's a massive week,’ said Rosenior. ‘It's what you're in football for, key games. We've got a huge game [against Brighton] and then we go into an FA Cup semi-final against a Leeds team in form.

That's why we're in football, that's what we want. Now is the time for us to deliver and that's what we have to work towards.’

According to the Chelsea head coach, the key to bouncing back from the weekend’s loss to Manchester United and securing the results we need during the coming week is simple.

Rosenior says we must block out potential distractions by concentrating solely on the task at hand, which is maximising our chances of getting back to winning ways. In other words, first things first, and the first thing on the agenda right now is picking up three points at Brighton.

‘It's about our standards, it's about our performances,’ he continued. ‘We have to arrest this run of form. We haven't won enough games recently – that has to change.

‘If you start thinking about the repercussions, you're not focused on what you're doing. We have to focus on the game tomorrow. We have to focus on the way we play and we have to make sure we win games.

‘That's what this club demands, rightfully so, and it's what the fans expect. You can't speak about the long term if you're not doing the job in the short term.

'Being respectfully honest, we haven't done well enough in recent games. That needs to change and that's on my shoulders as the head coach.

'We have to make sure we train very well, which we have done today (Monday), and we go down to Brighton, where the only focus has to be on winning this game of football.'

Nicolas Jackson Increasingly Open to Chelsea Return from Bayern Munich

Senegalese international forward Nicolas Jackson is growing increasingly receptive to the possibility of returning to Chelsea, according to sources close to the player.

The 24-year-old, who departed Stamford Bridge in recent years, has been impressed by the significant changes implemented at the club since his exit. Jackson is said to be encouraged by the new direction, stability, and renewed ambition under the current leadership, which have reshaped the environment at one of England’s biggest clubs.

Currently shining in Germany, Jackson has enjoyed a productive campaign with Bayern Munich, netting 9 goals in 28 appearances across all competitions this season. His consistent performances have reaffirmed his status as one of Europe’s most promising young strikers, blending physical presence, clinical finishing, and intelligent movement.

Sources indicate that while no formal negotiations have begun, Jackson’s representatives have noted a positive shift in sentiment toward a potential homecoming. The player, who made his name at Chelsea before moving abroad, is believed to view a return as an opportunity to write a new chapter in familiar surroundings.

A source close to the Senegal international told reporters: “Nicolas has been following developments at Chelsea closely. He’s genuinely encouraged by how much the club has evolved and stabilized since he left. The door is increasingly open in his mind for a return, though any move would need to make sense for all parties involved.”

Chelsea fans will no doubt recall Jackson’s early promise during his initial spell at the club, and his potential reinstatement could add firepower and familiarity to the squad as they look ahead to future campaigns.

Bayern Munich have not commented on the situation, and any transfer discussions remain speculative at this stage.

Liam Rosenior has said he '100 per cent' feels he has the support of the Chelsea hierarchy despite increasing pressure

Liam Rosenior has said he '100 per cent' feels he has the support of the Chelsea hierarchy despite increasing pressure on his job following a dismal run of form.

The Blues have lost four successive league games and failed to score in that time to leave their Champions League hopes hanging by a thread.

Chelsea are sixth, seven points adrift of fifth-placed Liverpool, raising questions over Rosenior's future after boos greeted the final whistle of Saturday's 1-0 defeat by Manchester United.

But when asked whether he feels the board still back him ahead of Tuesday's trip to Brighton, Rosenior said: '100 per cent.

'They’ve been supportive of me in our daily conversations, the sporting directors involved - they’ve been magnificent in their support of me and the team.

We’re aligned that we know we need to win games of football now. That doesn’t go against what we’re trying to do, which is to give consistent success to this club long term.'

Rosenior's side may miss out on Europe altogether given they are just three points clear of Fulham in 12th, yet he remained upbeat when discussing the challenge ahead.

'We’ve made it very difficult for ourselves,' he added of Chelsea's Champions League hopes. 'We have to be honest and realistic with that.

'But what we can’t do is give up. We have to keep fighting. We have to make sure we go to Brighton with similar attributes to what I saw against Manchester United in terms of our energy, intensity and engagement to the game, which was good.

'But we didn’t keep a clean sheet, and we didn’t take advantage of the chances, so we need to be more clinical and ruthless in both boxes.'

Last week, Blues co-owner Behdad Eghbali insisted the club remain behind Rosenior and hinted they would target more experienced players in the summer in a change of tack from their youthful recruitment policy.

When pressed on those comments, Rosenior responded: 'I can assure you we’ve had many conversations from when I joined in January about what this club needs now and in the future for us to be where we want to be.

'Behdad wants consistent trophies and success. That’s what we’ve spoken about in the now and in the summer and how we build. We’re all very aligned and clear in what we need to do, what we want to do and what we have to do to get this club back to where it should be.'

Joao Pedro faces a late fitness test ahead of the Brighton clash, although Enzo Fernandez is fit to feature. Estevao will be absent with the hamstring issue he suffered against United.

Liam Rosenior faces the media ahead of Chelsea's Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium...

Veteran Broadcaster Andy Jacobs Labels Alejandro Garnacho’s Performance as “One of the Worst” He Has Ever Seen

Veteran football broadcaster and talkSPORT presenter Andy Jacobs has delivered a scathing assessment of Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho following his display in the latest Premier League fixture.

Jacobs, who has been covering football for over six decades, did not hold back when discussing the Argentine international’s performance against his own club, Manchester United.

“I watched a lot of football over my 60 years of watching football, and even longer,” Jacobs said. “That was one of the worst performances by a professional footballer I have ever seen in my life.”

The comments come after Garnacho’s widely criticised showing, in which the 20-year-old struggled to make any positive impact, frequently losing possession and failing to track back effectively. Fans and pundits alike have expressed disappointment with the young forward’s recent form, and Jacobs’ blunt verdict has quickly gained traction across football media.

Jacobs, known for his no-nonsense opinions and deep football knowledge, has been a familiar voice on talkSPORT for many years. His strong criticism of Garnacho reflects growing frustration among observers regarding the player’s inconsistency this season despite flashes of talent earlier in his United career.

Manchester United continue their Premier League campaign amid a challenging period, with questions being raised about squad discipline, player form, and overall direction.

Liam Rosenior explains how Moises Caicedo leads by example

Moises Caicedo signed a new contract at Chelsea last week and Liam Rosenior has added his name to the list of people celebrating the good news.

Caicedo put pen to paper on Friday, committing his future to Chelsea until 2033 – which would mark his ten-year anniversary at the club.

The Ecuadorian subsequently wore the armband for the third game in a row in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester United, and Rosenior explained why Caicedo is such an important member of not only the team, but also the dressing room.

‘He leads by example and we’re delighted he’s committed his long-term future to the club,’ said the head coach.

‘He’s somebody who leads by example in his bravery and the way he takes the ball, the way that he presses and tackles and runs and fights for the team.

‘They are all the values that I believe get you success.’

Liam Rosenior: “We’re hurting, but this squad has the character to turn it around” – Head Coach previews Brighton trip amid challenging run of form

Ahead of tomorrow evening’s Premier League fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion (kick-off 8pm UK time at the Amex Stadium), Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior faced the media at the club’s Cobham training base this afternoon.

In a detailed and honest press conference, the 41-year-old Englishman addressed the team’s recent struggles, injury updates, tactical approach for the south-coast clash, and the growing external scrutiny on his own position following a difficult period of results.

**Recent struggles and current context**

Since Rosenior was appointed head coach on 6 January 2026 – replacing Enzo Maresca on a six-and-a-half-year contract – Chelsea have recorded 11 wins, 2 draws and 8 losses in all competitions. In the Premier League specifically, the team currently sits sixth, level on points with the sides immediately around them but with a goal difference that keeps European qualification in their own hands (pending results elsewhere).

However, the last four league matches have yielded no goals and four straight defeats, the latest a 1-0 home loss to Manchester United on Saturday that left Rosenior “befuddled” by what he described as a “dominant performance” that was not reflected on the scoreboard. Over the broader period since his arrival, Chelsea have slipped to ninth in the form table, with warning signs including dropped points against lower-table sides, a heavy Champions League last-16 aggregate defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, and occasional failure to sustain 90-minute intensity.

The squad has shown moments of real quality – including early wins under Rosenior against Brentford, Crystal Palace, West Ham and Wolves, plus a standout 7-0 FA Cup victory over Port Vale – but inconsistency has crept in. Rosenior did not shy away from this in today’s briefing.

“I’ve made mistakes,” he said. “We all have. The players, the staff and me. We’ve had periods where we’ve dominated games and not taken the chances, and we’ve had games where we haven’t been at our best for the full 90 minutes. That’s on me to fix. But I also know this group. I see the work they put in every day. We’re hurting right now, but hurt can be the fuel for a response.”

**Team news and Brighton preview**

On the injury front, Rosenior confirmed Brazilian youngster Estevão Willian will miss the trip to Brighton with a hamstring issue sustained against Manchester United. Captain Enzo Fernández, who withdrew at the weekend with a calf problem, is available. Forward João Pedro is rated a “late call” after missing the United game.

The head coach was typically measured when asked about the tactical challenge posed by Brighton, who sit ninth and have been difficult to break down at home. “They’re a well-organised side who play with intensity and have quality in wide areas,” Rosenior noted. “We’ve prepared for their threats, but more importantly we’ve prepared our own response. We need to be clinical, we need to be relentless, and we need to show the belief that I know is still in this dressing room.”

**On the possibility of his own future being questioned**

Rosenior was directly asked about mounting speculation regarding his position, including reports that failure to secure Champions League football could trigger a break clause in his long-term deal. He addressed the topic head-on while stressing the support he continues to receive from the club’s owners and hierarchy.

“The owners have been 100% supportive – not just in words, but in the resources and patience they’ve shown since January,” he said. “This is a results-based industry, I understand that better than anyone. But I was brought in for a reason: to build something sustainable, to develop players, and to compete at the highest level. We’re still in the fight for Europe with seven games to go. My focus is entirely on Brighton tomorrow night, getting three points, and then the next game, and the next. The noise outside doesn’t change what we do inside these walls.”

Chelsea sit one point outside the top five with a testing run of fixtures remaining. A positive result on the south coast would be a timely boost to both points tally and confidence as the season enters its decisive phase.

Rosenior concluded the press conference on a note of defiance: “I believe in this squad. I believe in the project. And I believe we will show the Chelsea fans and everyone watching exactly what we’re capable of tomorrow.”

Work resumed at Cobham on Monday, ahead of another busy week with trips to Brighton and Wembley awaiting the Blues.

After a disappointing defeat against Manchester United, all eyes are on making amends and Chelsea have an almost immediate opportunity to do just that as we prepare to travel to the Amex Stadium to take on the Seagulls.

Liam Rosenior spoke to the media earlier in the day to update supporters on the condition of Enzo Fernandez, who the head coach described as fine for tomorrow's contest. Meanwhile, former Brighton forward Joao Pedro will have a late call on his availability before travelling, but Estevao Willian is ruled out with a hamstring problem.

Pictured on the grass today were Tosin Adarabioyo, Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Marc Guiu, while Josh Acheampong, Wes Fofana, Pedro Neto and former Seagull Robert Sanchez also took part in the session and feature in the gallery.

Levi Colwill was also pictured working with the group, as he steps up his recovery and closes in on a return to action having featured for the Under-21 side recently.

Alan Shearer, Gary Lineker, and Micah Richards doesn’t think Liam Delap is ready for Chelsea

Delap Signed for £30m from Ipswich Town last summer, Delap has managed just one Premier League goal for Chelsea since joining. While the Englishman hasn’t had much of a run in the side, he started on Saturday.

But Delap was guilty of another poor display, and it isn’t his first this season. There was hope that the appointment of Liam Rosenior, his old Hull manager, could help him. But that hasn’t played out just yet.

Having watched Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Man United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night, The Rest Is Football’s Gary Lineker, Micah Richards and Alan Shearer all had their say on Delap and his Chelsea stint.

Shearer believes Delap is not good enough for Chelsea at the moment, but is in agreement with Richards and Lineker that he needs time. Whether the 23-year-old is going to get time, is a very different question.

Shearer began: “There’s definite talent in there, but not for Chelsea just yet,” before Lineker replied: “He’s not had a good run of games has he, with injuries as well. We’ll reserve our judgement there for a while.”

Micah Richards added: “With Delap, he’s trying to find his feet a little bit, it’s fair to say. But with the expectation of the fans at Chelsea, he needs a little bit of time, that’s for sure,” he summarised on Delap.

Mikel is worried and left questioning where on earth the club is headed.

John Obi Mikel and Chris McHardy discuss the weekend’s top stories as Manchester City wrestle control of the title race from Arsenal. It’s now just one win in six for the Gunners as they are edged out at the Etihad Stadium, and Obi Mikel isn’t happy with Mikel Arteta.

Mikel also has his say on Gabriel’s headbutt on Erling Haaland and ponders whether Arsenal will not be more comfortable hunting rather than being hunted.

Another defeat for Chelsea means it’s four on the bounce without so much as a goal scored, and just one win in eight. Little worried Mikel is worried and left questioning where on earth the club is headed.

Liam Rosenior has stated that a late call will be made on Joao Pedro ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League clash with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Liam Rosenior has stated that a late call will be made on Joao Pedro ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League clash with Brighton & Hove Albion.

The striker was absent from the weekend’s home defeat to Manchester United through injury and it remains to be seen whether he can return to face his former club on Tuesday evening.

Our head coach also confirmed that Estevao Willian, who was forced off against the Red Devils with a hamstring injury, will miss the trip to the south coast but Enzo Fernandez is fine to feature after withdrawing with a calf problem at the weekend.

‘Joao will be a late call,’ Rosenior told the gathered media at Cobham.

‘He was out on the pitch today, and we will make a decision on him tomorrow morning. That’s a real positive for us because he will be back sooner rather than later

‘Estevao is definitely out, which is a real shame and we are doing further tests into the extent of his injury.

‘Enzo is absolutely fine, he’s available. Elsewhere we have no other new news to report. Everyone is okay, even though it’s a quick turnaround from Saturday’s game to tomorrow.’

Elsewhere, Rosenior delivered an update on Levi Colwill. The defender has returned to team training following his recovery from a serious knee injury and featured for the Under-21 side recently.

While not putting too much pressure on the England international, Rosenior is hopeful that Colwill could feature for the Blues before the season is out.

‘Very hopeful that we’ll see him before the end of the season,’ Rosenior said of Colwill.

‘He played 60 minutes for the Under-21s, and while it was a very low-level game, getting 60 minutes was a really good start for him.

‘We want him to be involved in the next game on Saturday with the Under-21s, and build him up because it's been a really bad injury that he's come back from.

‘His rehab has gone really well and he’s trained today. He’s made a huge impression on the group and you can really feel his presence on the training pitch.

‘I can't wait to have him back in with the group.’
