Trevoh Chalobah: ‘We have to be accountable’

Trevoh Chalobah feels the squad should be accountable for a disappointing performance against Brighton, after the Blues fell to a 3-0 defeat at the Amex Stadium.

It was a frustrating evening on the south coast, and Trev was left crestfallen after the Seagulls overtook Chelsea in the Premier League standings with three points on a night to forget.

Chalobah acknowledged the performance and felt it was important for the players to ‘take responsibility’ for Tuesday evening’s defeat.

Speaking after the game, Trev said: ‘We’re in a difficult moment, but we can’t use that as an excuse. We all play for one of the biggest clubs in the world, so we have to look at ourselves. You can say tactics, you can say this [or that], but we just have to take responsibility.

‘As players, we have to be accountable for our performance. We know how much the fans have been behind us, and we know they are disappointed at the moment with the results.’

With a hugely important match to come this weekend, where the Blues take on Leeds United in our FA Cup semi-final clash at Wembley, Trev believes it’s vital that we pull together and regroup in these next few days.

Another DISGRACEFUL display from Chelsea after defat to Brighton

Chelsea suffered a fifth consecutive Premier League defeat with the result moving Brighton above us in the table.

The Seagulls had already gone close when Ferdi Kadioglu opened the scoring on three minutes, and they passed up several presentable chances to double their lead before half-time.

Jack Hinshelwood did get a second ten minutes after the restart and the hosts completed the scoring in stoppage time through sub Danny Welbeck.

Alejandro Garnacho went closest for us with two second-half efforts, but there was no doubt Brighton were worthy winners at the Amex Stadium on another disappointing evening for Liam Rosenior's side.

Team news

With both Estevao Willian and Cole Palmer missing out through injury, Rosenior adjusted the team’s shape.

One of the fresh faces, Trevoh Chalobah, joined Wesley Fofana and Jorrel Hato in a central defensive trio, with Malo Gusto and Marc Cucurella operating at wing-back.

Romeo Lavia, the other player brought into the starting XI, lined up alongside Moises Caicedo in midfield. Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez supported Liam Delap in attack.

Brighton strike early

Chelsea started slowly and were punished inside four minutes. Brighton had already served a warning of their intent when an unmarked Kaoru Mitoma bounced an effort into the ground and forced a flying save from Robert Sanchez.

Hato won the first contact from the resulting corner, but the clearance only fell to Kadioglu, whose shot took a nick off Fofana on its way in.

The Seagulls kept pushing. It needed Sanchez to tip Jan Paul van Hecke’s header over the crossbar, and a couple of minutes later Georginio Rutter curled a presentable opening high and wide.

When Sanchez misplaced a short pass straight to Yankuba Minteh, it looked certain Brighton would double their lead. Thankfully, Chalobah made a superb sliding clearance off the line to stop Hinshelwood turning the Gambian’s square pass into the net.

Between the midway point of the half and the interval, we mustered a couple of promising attacks using the likes of Pedro Neto and Delap, although the result of those were corners that amounted to nothing rather than shots on goal.

Second-half switches

Ahead of the restart, Rosenior brought on Alejandro Garnacho for Fofana – who was booked in first-half stoppage time – and reverted to a back four. We looked more comfortable and Lavia whipped a strike not a million miles over inside 60 seconds of the restart.

However, it was Brighton who scored the game’s second goal on 55 minutes. We had the ball on the edge of the box but a ricochet went the hosts’ way and they countered, with Rutter teeing up Hinshelwood to sweep the ball into the net.

Sanchez made two fine saves in quick succession to keep the scoreline at 2-0, denying Kadioglu on both occasions. The first stop was low to his left, the second springing high to his right.

Blues go close

We fashioned an opening with 20 minutes left after good work from Fernandez and Gusto in the inside right channel. Gusto cut the ball back to Garnacho, whose goalbound shot was well blocked by Joel Veltman.

The Argentine went close again with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining after good work from sub Marc Guiu created space for Fernandez to drive into. His compatriot’s shot had Bart Verbruggen worried but it slipped past the far post; Guiu then suffered the same fate when his angled volley took a deflection.

Our misery was compounded in the first minute of stoppage time when two Brighton subs combined to extend their lead, Maxim De Cuyper squaring for Welbeck to slam a finish into the net.

What it means…

Brighton leapfrog us in the table into sixth position.

Roberto Di Matteo on Liam Rosenior's struggle:

"You take over a team that was built for a different coach, with a different system. It's always hard to be able to put your print on the team during mid-season. Everybody expects you to get it going straight away.

I guess next season we'll be able to see his team make some adjustments to the way the team (plays) or (bring in) the players to play his system."

Liam Rosenior on his Brighton reunion ahead of 'really difficult' test

Liam Rosenior ended his playing career with Brighton & Hove Albion. Now he will return there as Chelsea head coach, with the two clubs locked in this season’s fight for European qualification.

In addition to a spell working in the Seagulls' academy, the last three seasons of Rosenior’s playing career were spent at the Amex Stadium, where he helped Brighton earn promotion to the top flight for the first time in 34 years – and then stay there.

They have remained in the Premier League since, and now sit one point behind the Blues in the top-flight table as Rosenior goes back to the south coast tonight, this time to take his place in the away team dugout.

I had a special time there,’ he said, when asked about his memories from his time at Brighton, between 2015 and 2019.

‘It was full of – and still is full of – very good people. It doesn't surprise me to see the growth of the club.

‘The way they've built the infrastructure, the way that they've built that football club, is very good. I'm not surprised to see them where they are now in the league table. Fabian [Hurzeler, Brighton head coach] is doing a fantastic job.

‘It’s a club that has been built in a way, and that is built for consistency. They’ve got players who have understood the system for a long time, and they’re going to be a really difficult team to play against.’

CHELSEA CONTINUE TALKS OVER POTENTIAL DEAL FOR SUNDERLAND MIDFIELDER NOAH SADIKI

Chelsea hold fresh discussions with the camp of Sunderland midfielder Noah Sadiki regarding a potential transfer to Stamford Bridge.

The 21-year-old Belgian talent remains a high-priority target on Chelsea’s shortlist of midfield reinforcements as the club continues its long-term strategy of investing in young, high-potential players who can develop into key figures for the squad.

Sadiki has enjoyed an outstanding season with Sunderland in the Championship, where he has formed a formidable midfield partnership alongside Granit Xhaka. His dynamic energy, technical quality, tactical intelligence, and ability to dictate play from deep positions have been central to the Black Cats’ campaign, earning widespread praise from fans, pundits, and opposition coaches alike.

A product of the Anderlecht academy, Sadiki joined Sunderland in 2024 and has rapidly established himself as one of the most promising young midfielders in English football. Chelsea’s scouting team has monitored his progress closely throughout the season.

No agreement has yet been reached, and discussions remain ongoing. Chelsea will continue to act in a professional and respectful manner regarding all parties involved.

Liam Rosenior Addresses Wesley Fofana’s Reaction Following Substitution in Manchester United Defeat

Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior has confirmed that defender Wesley Fofana apologised for his emotional reaction after being substituted during Saturday’s Premier League match against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

Fofana was replaced late in the game as Chelsea suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat. Footage circulated showing the player’s frustrated response as he left the pitch, including an interaction with members of the coaching staff.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Rosenior emphasised his support for the player while acknowledging the need for better emotional management in high-pressure situations.

“Wesley Fofana has apologised. He is very emotional in a good way,” said Rosenior. “I love him as a guy. He wears his heart on his sleeve. He’s disappointed. He could’ve shown his emotion in a better way.”

Rosenior added that he had spoken directly with Fofana about the incident, stressing that the player’s reaction stemmed from deep disappointment at the team’s result rather than any personal issue. He described Fofana as a passionate young player who is still learning to channel his emotions constructively.

“These are young players who are going to make mistakes in the moment,” Rosenior noted. “Wes is a very emotional character in a good way. As a guy, he’s not afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve. I’ve spoken to him about it and he’s just disappointed that we’re losing the game. I do think he could have shown that emotion in a better way and that’s something that I’ve spoken about, but the optics on that is not the reality.”

The club continues to focus on building team spirit and resilience as the season progresses. Rosenior reiterated his belief in the squad’s character and the importance of learning from challenging moments both on and off the pitch.

Chelsea returns to action with a strong squad commitment to delivering improved performances in upcoming fixtures.

Estevão Set to Return from Hamstring Injury in Time for Chelsea’s FA Cup Final Push and Fully Fit for Brazil World Cup Call-Up

Young Brazilian star Estevão Willian is expected to be fully recovered and available for selection when Carlo Ancelotti names Brazil’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in May, despite a recent hamstring injury.

According to reliable reports from Brazilian journalist @cahemota, the 18-year-old Chelsea winger sustained a hamstring injury that is projected to sideline him for 15 to 20 days. This timeline positions his return in early May, clearing the path for potential participation in Chelsea’s FA Cup final and ensuring he will be at full fitness for Brazil’s World Cup preparations.

There are no concerns regarding Estevão’s availability for the tournament itself. The injury is considered minor and manageable, with medical staff optimistic about a swift and complete recovery.

“Estevão has shown incredible maturity and talent since arriving at Chelsea,” a source close to the situation noted. “The focus now is on a careful recovery so he can finish the season strongly with Chelsea and be ready to represent Brazil on the biggest stage in football.”

The timing aligns perfectly with Brazil’s World Cup campaign under new head coach Carlo Ancelotti, who is widely expected to include the highly-rated young forward in his final squad. Estevão’s pace, dribbling ability, and goal-scoring threat have made him one of the most exciting prospects in world football.

Chelsea fans remain hopeful that the Brazilian sensation will be fit in time to feature in a potential FA Cup final appearance later this season, adding another highlight to his debut campaign in English football.

CHELSEA AGREE PROFESSIONAL CONTRACT WITH TALENTED DEFENDER CALVIN DIAKITE

Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce that 16-year-old defender Calvin Diakite has signed his first professional contract with the club.

The highly regarded centre-back has agreed a deal that will run until June 2028. Diakite, who has impressed with his composure, ball-playing ability and physical presence, has already featured for Chelsea’s Under-21 and Under-18 teams this season while continuing to develop rapidly within the Academy.

A product of Chelsea’s renowned youth system, Diakite has also been a regular in England’s youth international setup, representing the Young Lions at various age groups.

Liam Rosenior Responds to Reports on Alejandro Garnacho: “My Job is to Help Him Reach Those Levels”

Chelsea Head Coach Liam Rosenior has reacted to recent media reports concerning Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, questioning the reliability of the speculation while praising the young Argentine’s talent.

Speaking about the story reported by talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, Rosenior said:

“I’d like to know the source of the report. These reports can come from anywhere. Garna is 21 years old. Garna is someone who has special qualities when he is in a good place and he’s in good form. And my job is to help him reach those levels.”

The 21-year-old Garnacho has been the subject of ongoing transfer speculation, with several clubs linked to the exciting winger. Rosenior’s comments reflect a measured and professional stance, focusing on player development rather than engaging in speculation.

Rosenior emphasised his commitment to nurturing young talent with high potential, stating that his primary focus remains on creating the right environment for players to thrive and perform at their best.

Chelsea continue to build a young, dynamic squad capable of competing at the highest level, with player development and squad harmony at the heart of the club’s strategy under the current coaching team.

Liam Rosenior Responds to Cole Palmer Interview: Core Plan Remains Unchanged Amid Champions League Context

Chelsea Head Coach Liam Rosenior has praised an insightful recent interview given by star midfielder Cole Palmer, while clarifying that the club’s fundamental plans for building a successful team will not shift even if qualification for the UEFA Champions League is not secured this season.

Rosenior, who has been instrumental in guiding the squad during a competitive Premier League campaign, addressed Palmer’s comments directly after being forwarded the interview.

“I got sent Cole’s interview, I thought it was an outstanding interview from someone who cares about the club,” said Rosenior. “The reality is, does everything change? No. The plan, in terms of what this team needs and what we need to be successful, doesn’t. The context around that does. So, money, especially finances, that type of thing.”

Palmer, a key figure in Chelsea’s attacking play and a fan favourite since his arrival, had spoken candidly about the importance of Champions League football for the club’s ambitions and his own future aspirations. Rosenior’s response underscores a message of continuity and stability at Stamford Bridge, emphasising that the long-term vision for squad development, tactical identity, and on-pitch success remains firmly in place regardless of European qualification outcomes.

The Head Coach highlighted Palmer’s passion and commitment as emblematic of the squad’s growing unity and dedication to the club’s project under the current ownership and coaching staff.

Chelsea remain focused on their remaining Premier League fixtures, with the team battling to secure the best possible position in the table. The club will continue to prioritise sustainable growth, player development, and competitive success both domestically and in Europe.

Chelsea signing of Alejandro Garnacho hasn’t worked out and could end up selling him

According to a report from talkSPORT, which has come out after Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester United over the weekend, there is now an acceptance among the Blues’ hierarchy that the Garnacho signing has not worked out.

The same outlet has also claimed that Chelsea are now open to selling the winger as a result despite him having only arrived at the club last August.

Chelsea paid £40m to sign Garnacho from their Premier League rivals United, which some felt was a bargain at the time.

It has also been reported elsewhere that Chelsea are prepared to sell Garnacho this summer, so it does appear that the club may already be done with him.

o the delight of his former supporters, Garnacho really struggled against United as Chelsea fell to a fourth consecutive defeat in the English top flight.

Whatever happens this summer, Garnacho cannot complain about not getting a chance. With Jamie Gittens struggling to stay fit this season, the Argentina international has had the opportunity to nail down the spot on the left. He has not done it, though.

In the cup competitions, Garnacho has been able to make an impact. For example, in four Carabao Cup fixtures, he scored four goals, including a brace against Arsenal.

However, Garnacho has struggled in the Premier League, netting just once. With that in mind, it is not a shock to hear that Chelsea are already thinking about selling him.

That being said, Garnacho is still a young player with a lot of potential. There is no reason why he cannot improve at Chelsea and turn things around.

Liam Rosenior calls up Jesse Derry to first-team training

Chelsea held training on Monday ahead of the trip to Brighton tomorrow night, which sees Rosenior return to face a side he played more than 50 times for, and then worked as a U23 assistant manager.

According to BBC reporter Nizaar Kinsella, 18-year-old Jesse Derry was in senior training on Monday. Derry has made his first-team debut under Rosenior and could now be in with a shout of playing.

Derry is yet to play in the Premier League, or even be a part of the matchday squad. Kinsella posted on X, following Monday’s press conference: “Jesse Derry was training with Chelsea’s first team squad today.”

With Estevao sidelined and Pedro a doubt, Rosenior will have some decisions to make when it comes to picking his starting XI. He is forced into a change out wide, and it could see Alejandro Garnacho start.

Palmer has improved since playing in the 10, after a stint on the right flank under Rosenior. Pedro Neto was one of Chelsea’s best players against Man United, and Garnacho is now likely to start on Tuesday.

Liam Delap struggled on Saturday even if he did almost score only his second Premier League goal, and Rosenior will be keen to start Pedro even if not fully it. There may also be changes at centre-back.

Wesley Fofana was spotted walking off the pitch at full-time angrily, and Rosenior may decide a change is needed. Fernandez’s fitness is a positive, and he is likely to partner Moises Caicedo in central midfield.

Liam Rosenior admits Champions League qualification is now a ‘difficult’ task

Rosenior has now been discussing his side’s chances of finishing in the top five ahead of their game against Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday.

In the build-up to Chelsea’s visit to the Amex Stadium, Rosenior was asked about the Blues’ Champions League hopes.

The 41-year-old was very honest with his response, telling reporters that it is now a “difficult” task following Saturday’s loss to United.

In his pre-match press conference, which has been shared by football.london, Rosenior said: “We’ll deal with each situation as it arises. It’s a difficult task but we have to focus on winning against a very good Brighton team.”

Chelsea are currently in sixth place in the Premier League table, seven points behind Liverpool, who occupy the final Champions League spot in fifth.

United’s gap over Chelsea has now increased to 10 points after their victory at Stamford Bridge, giving Rosenior’s side zero chance of finishing above Michael Carrick’s team.

On another day, Liam Delap believes Chelsea would have beaten United after all of the chances that they created.

Brighton are one of the most in-form teams in the Premier League right now, whereas Chelsea are one of the most out-of-form sides.

In fact, since gameweek 26, Chelsea have been second bottom in the form table. Nothing points towards a Chelsea win here.

The most the Club World Cup winners can probably hope for is a draw, so COBALT ROAR  is predicting the game to finish 1-1.

However, no Chelsea supporter at this point would be surprised if the club could not even secure a point and went on to lose. At this stage, it does not really matter. It is going to take some collapse from United, Aston Villa or Liverpool for Chelsea to finish in the top five.

Rosenior calls on Blues to ‘stand up and fight for the shirt’

Liam Rosenior says his Chelsea players must 'stand up for the shirt and fight' when our chase for a top-five finish in the Premier League continues at Brighton and Hove Albion tomorrow evening.

With five Premier League fixtures remaining, a disappointing run of results for the Blues has left us pursuing those above us in the race for UEFA Champions League qualification.

Rosenior believes reeling in the clubs above us is not an insurmountable task, with our head coach outlining that it will require plenty of belief, commitment and fight from his team. A focus on what we can control, rather than the distraction of results elsewhere, is also paramount.

‘The first thing is we can't be looking to other teams or other results, we have to look to ourselves. That's what you have to do,’ he explained.

‘It's easy to say these words, but it’s about belief and keeping the faith. The way you do that is you work as hard as you can, with as much quality as you possibly can, and you turn things around.

‘It's about character now; it's about standing up. It's about people who are willing, in difficult moments, to stand up for the shirt and fight. That's what I'm looking for tomorrow.

‘But I believe in them, and I believe that we can come through this period so much stronger, but we have to get this part right now.’

The Blues currently sit sixth in the top-flight table, seven points behind fifth-placed Liverpool. Yet we still have to visit Anfield before the season comes to a close, and Rosenior insists his side must be ready to strike if an opportunity to move back into the Champions League qualification positions opens up.

‘To take it as far as we possibly can has to be the aim,' Rosenior added. 'The only way you do that is to focus on the next game. We need to go into the Brighton game with the mentality to go and win.’

Liam Rosenior urges focus during 'a massive week' for the Blues

Liam Rosenior wants his Chelsea side to begin a 'massive week' by arresting our disappointing form with a victory over Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium tomorrow evening.

The games are coming thick and fast as the Blues enter a crucial period of the campaign, competing across two fronts. First comes a midweek trip to face the Seagulls in the Premier League tomorrow evening, before we head to Wembley for an FA Cup semi-final against old rivals Leeds United on Sunday.

For our head coach, the target is clear. Take a step closer to a top-five league finish and qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League, before booking our place in a cup final for the chance to lift silverware.

Our next two games are vital for those ambitions, and Rosenior says these are the high-stakes moments that make the sport so exciting.

‘It's a massive week,’ said Rosenior. ‘It's what you're in football for, key games. We've got a huge game [against Brighton] and then we go into an FA Cup semi-final against a Leeds team in form.

That's why we're in football, that's what we want. Now is the time for us to deliver and that's what we have to work towards.’

According to the Chelsea head coach, the key to bouncing back from the weekend’s loss to Manchester United and securing the results we need during the coming week is simple.

Rosenior says we must block out potential distractions by concentrating solely on the task at hand, which is maximising our chances of getting back to winning ways. In other words, first things first, and the first thing on the agenda right now is picking up three points at Brighton.

‘It's about our standards, it's about our performances,’ he continued. ‘We have to arrest this run of form. We haven't won enough games recently – that has to change.

‘If you start thinking about the repercussions, you're not focused on what you're doing. We have to focus on the game tomorrow. We have to focus on the way we play and we have to make sure we win games.

‘That's what this club demands, rightfully so, and it's what the fans expect. You can't speak about the long term if you're not doing the job in the short term.

'Being respectfully honest, we haven't done well enough in recent games. That needs to change and that's on my shoulders as the head coach.

'We have to make sure we train very well, which we have done today (Monday), and we go down to Brighton, where the only focus has to be on winning this game of football.'
