Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has called for greater consistency from his team after the Blues were held to a 2-2 draw by Hull City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Chelsea made a fast start through Morgan Rogers, but Hull responded strongly and turned the game around with two goals from Mohamed Belloumi. João Pedro eventually restored parity in the second half, but Chelsea were unable to find a winning goal.

The result extended Hull’s unbeaten start to the Premier League season, while Chelsea were left frustrated after dropping points at home.

Speaking after the match, Alonso acknowledged that his team is progressing but admitted there is still significant work to do, particularly when it comes to maintaining their level throughout an entire match.

“We are taking steps forward, but we would like to have the feeling we are further.”

The Chelsea boss stressed that his players must become more solid and competitive for the full 90 minutes rather than producing strong performances only during certain periods.

For Alonso, that consistency is one of the most important areas Chelsea must address as they look to compete more effectively in the Premier League.

He also emphasized that improvement will take time, describing Chelsea's development under his management as a process. However, the draw against Hull demonstrated why defensive stability and game management remain key priorities.

Chelsea have now conceded two goals in each of their opening league matches this season, highlighting the defensive concerns Alonso is attempting to resolve.

Despite the disappointment, Alonso remains confident that Chelsea can improve as the campaign progresses.

The message from the Chelsea manager is clear: progress is being made, but the Blues need greater consistency, solidity and control if they are to turn entertaining performances into regular Premier League victories.
