Chelsea Women ended a demanding run of fixtures in impressive fashion, securing a comfortable 3-0 victory away at West Ham United on Sunday.
Having faced Lyon in a physically demanding midweek encounter, Chelsea were expected to be tested by the quick turnaround. The opening stages proved challenging, with the Blues struggling to create clear opportunities as West Ham defended resolutely.
Chelsea eventually broke the deadlock in the 38th minute. Sjoeke Nüsken capitalised on a mistake in West Ham's midfield, winning possession before finding Melvine Malard. The forward showed excellent composure to turn and fire beyond the goalkeeper, giving Chelsea a 1-0 lead at half-time.
The second half remained closely contested for long spells, but Chelsea found another gear following changes from manager Sonia Bompastor.
Keira Walsh doubled the visitors' advantage with a superb strike from outside the penalty area, giving Chelsea greater control of the contest.
The Blues then added a third when Maika Hamano headed home, with Alyssa Thompson playing a key role in creating both second-half goals from the left flank.
West Ham were unable to seriously threaten Chelsea in the final third, allowing the visitors to see out a convincing victory.
The 3-0 result gives Chelsea another important win before the international break and extends their impressive defensive run to six consecutive clean sheets.
