Estêvão Willian delivered another eye-catching performance for Brazil on Saturday, scoring and providing an assist as the Seleção defeated India 4–0 in Kolkata.
The Chelsea winger opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a composed left-footed finish after cutting inside from the right. He then played a key role in Brazil’s second goal, producing a defence-splitting pass for Pedro to finish before being substituted in the 67th minute.
The performance continues Estêvão’s impressive record for his country. Chelsea report that the 19-year-old has now scored six goals in nine games for Brazil since moving to Stamford Bridge in 2025.
His latest display is likely to renew questions over his limited involvement at Chelsea under Xabi Alonso. Estêvão has found opportunities difficult to come by in the Premier League, with his league appearances largely coming from the bench and usually late in matches. Earlier in September, reports indicated that he had accumulated only 47 Premier League minutes after five matches.
Estêvão himself has remained diplomatic about the situation, stressing that he understands the competition within Chelsea’s squad and is concentrating on performing well in training and making the most of every opportunity he receives.
The contrast between his club and international roles is becoming increasingly noticeable. While his Chelsea minutes have been restricted, Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti has trusted him with significant responsibility, and Estêvão has responded with goals, creativity and attacking influence.
For Chelsea supporters, the question is now whether his latest international display can strengthen his case for a bigger role at Stamford Bridge. With the teenager continuing to produce when given responsibility for Brazil, pressure could grow for Alonso to find more opportunities for one of Chelsea’s most exciting young attackers.
Estêvão’s message has been clear: when the opportunity comes, he intends to take it.
