Morgan Rogers has praised Chelsea’s response following their recent setback, highlighting the character and determination shown by his teammates during their Carabao Cup clash against Liverpool at Anfield.
Despite Chelsea eventually exiting the competition on penalties, the performance offered encouragement after their disappointing defeat against Tottenham. The Blues showed greater intensity, resilience and attacking intent against a difficult opponent.
Rogers believes the team’s reaction demonstrated the fighting mentality within the dressing room, while acknowledging that there is still room for improvement as they continue adapting to Xabi Alonso’s tactical ideas.
Speaking after the match, Rogers expressed his pride in the players’ efforts, insisting that their determination was a positive sign for the team’s future.
He said: “To show that reaction shows we have players in the dressing room with character and fight. That’s all you can ask. Of course we will get better tactically and technically in terms of the way we want to play.
“We showed real fight after that loss and to come here and put in a performance against a tough team, I’m proud of the boys and now we have to keep moving forward.”
Chelsea will now turn their attention back to the Premier League, with Alonso and his players looking to build on the positives from Anfield and translate their improved performance into consistent results.
Although the cup exit will be disappointing, Rogers’ comments underline the importance of maintaining team spirit, learning from setbacks and continuing to develop under their new manager.
